Oddly enough, the one thing that may give you an immediate relief from the irritating itching feeling of scalp psoriasis can also be your worst adversary for scalp psoriasis treatment. That thing I am referring to is scratching your scalp with your fingernails. When you scratch your scalp, your fingernails leave small cuts or lesions in the skin, which make it vulnerable to infection and worsen your skin condition. I know it’s so tempting to want that immediate relief from the itching and the flaking of the skin. You think that by scratching and picking at your head, you will somehow be able to remove all those white flakes from your head and relieve the itching too. The truth is you’ll end up causing yourself more pain and frustration. The best thing to do is to wash your head with a medicated shampoo and warm water… using the tips of your fingers to massage your scalp. The warm water will soften skin, and using the tips of your fingers will loosen and break away the flakes of dead skin from your scalp without leaving small cuts. Also, massaging your scalp with your fingertips will also work the medicated shampoo into your scalp and make the treatment more effective. So the next time you get the urge to scratch your head step back and consider indulging yourself in a warm shower and washing your head instead.
